Grid: Grid over voltage (OV-G-V)

The inverter has detected grid voltage higher than the selected grid standards operating range.

01/02 indicates that the 1st or 2nd set point have been breached.

Possible causes are;

  • The grid code is not set correctly.
  • AC cables are not sized sufficiently
  • Loose AC Connections
  • Downstream transformer issues
  • Inaccurate measurement by inverter

In most cases this issue indicates that the inverter is doing its job correctly.

  1. Check the grid standard is correct.
  2. Turn the DC Switch Off and measure the AC voltages.
    • Contact your electricity supplier if grid voltage is too high.
  3. Check all AC connections.
    • Any loose AC connections can also cause grid voltage spikes. When resistance is introduced into the line heat and excess voltage issues can happen.
  4. Check that the AC cabling is thick enough, particularly if there is a significant distance between inverter and transformer.
    • Line loss can cause voltages to spike leading to an OV-G error. This happens when the line loss causes excess resistance to build up in the AC circuit, the inverter attempt to compensate for this by increasing the voltage to drive the current. When the AC voltage exceeds the inverter’s limit it causes a shut down. Once production stops the inverter will see the grid voltage decrease, so it will attempt to restart. This will continue to happen in a cycle throughout the day. Lowing the transformer taps, or increasing the conductor size is the solution.

This is an inverter driven issue. Quite often this error can occur at multiple times throughout the day.

Issue Creation

If the inverter sends a single message with this type of alarm in a 24hr period an issue will be created.

Resolution:

If a 24hr period passes with good production, and not futher alarms, the issue will be automatically resolved.

Alternatively a custom grid setting with high voltage limit can be set with the permission of the utility or facility owner.
