Digital Twin: Underperformance

The actual performance of the system is not meeting expectations according to the digital twin and measured weather conditions.

In the absence of other known issues, the most likely causes are;

  • Shade losses are not modelled correctly
  • Module soiling
  • Persistent grid problems
  • Poor connections / misconfigured strings
  • Mis-use of optimizers
  • Monitoring Setup is not configured properly (usually after inverter replacement)

If these are ruled out then the cause may be harder to detect product defects such as;

  • Module micro-cracks
  • Shorted junction boxes
  1. Investigate the historic occurance of Issues in Helios.
  2. Generate the system performance report from Helios and analyse the shade losses for the system.
  3. Run remote IV Curves (OX and XLX-MII)
  4. Aerial thermography with drone
  5. Physical Inspection

This is a digital twin driven issue. Only systems with guarantees will have performance alerts generated.

Issue Creation

If the actual system output is not within tolerance of the retrodicted output (digital twin + actual weather) over the selected time frame an issue will be created.

The tolerance and time-frame depends on a number of factors.

Resolution:

Resolution for performance issues is manual. The cause of the underperformance must first be understood.
