Monitoring – Local Wi-Fi Connection for Digital Monitoring Sticks

Establishing the link between the monitoring device and Autarco’s server by using the existing on-site Wi-fi network.

In the following steps you will;

  1. Access the local Wi-FI network created by the Monitoring Stick.
  2. Give the Monitoring Stick priviledges to connect to the on-site router via the Monitoring Stick’s online interface.
  3. The Monitoring Stick can then use the local internet connection to send monitoring data via your the on-site router to the Autarco server.

If you are having trouble following the steps, please see “Other Questions” before attempting to contact support.

Each Wi-Fi stick creates its own secured wireless network with network name: “Autarco_<serial number>”

e.g. “Autarco_5F12092405500310”.

Using a computer, tablet or mobile phone, connect to this wireless network with the password: 123456789.

Go to step 2

Once you are connected to this Wi-Fi network, open an internet browser such as Chrome or Internet Explorer on the same device.

In the browser address bar type 10.10.100.254.

This will then access the Monitoring Stick configuration interface.

Go to Step 3

When prompted for the username and password use “admin” and “123456789”.

Go to Step 4

Click on the Quick Set link in the main menu on the left.

Then click Search. A list of nearby Wi-Fi networks will appear.

You can change the language in the top right.

Go to Step 5

Find the Wi-Fi signal created by your local Wi-Fi router and select it. This is the same Wi-Fi network you connect to on your home devices to use the internet.

Click OK to continue.

If you can’t find it in the list, click REFRESH and ensure the signal is present at the inverter location by checking on your phone or other device.

Go to Step 6

Enter the password to your local Wi-Fi network. You can click the eye to show the password. This is the same password you use on other devices to connect to the internet, it may be on the back of your home router.

Note: Passwords are case sensitive. If using an iPad, iPhone or other tablet device, please ensure that the first character of the password hasn’t automatically become uppercase.

Unless connecting to a secured business network leave Enabled the option “Obtain an IP address automatically” option and click Save

Go to Step 7

Upon clicking SAVE, the Wi-Fi stick will restart and try to connect to your Wi-Fi network. If this succeeds, all three indicator lights on the Stick will be solid.

Congratulations!

Note: For security reasons after successfully connecting to the server, the Wi-Fi network of the stick will be disabled so no one can log in to it again. The Stick can be reset following instructions below if necessary.

If you have not already done so, the final step is configure the monitoring in Helios and provide access to the end customer.

Other Questions

After the Monitoring Stick has already been connected to a local network it’s wireless network (Access Point ‘AP’).

In order to see the AP again, the Stick should be reset. The steps to connect the stick to the local Wi-Fi Network will need to be performed again.

To reset the Monitoring Stick press the button on the back of the Monitoring Stick for 15 seconds until the indicator lights flash and the ‘COM’ and ‘NET’ lights go off.

The possible range depends on numerous factors like number of walls, wall type and also the number of other WI-FI networks in the area. As a broad guideline, Wifi is recommended for use;

  • 30m open space

When you stand at the inverter location can you see the local Wi-fi network on your mobile phone?

If the local WiFi signal is too weak to establish a stable connection, it might be necessary to install a WiFi range extender.

A signal quality of 30% or more is sufficient. If the signal quality is below 30%, install one or more WiFi repeaters between the local router and the inverter.

If the green ‘NET’ light is flashing then the Stick is unable to successfully connect to the Autarco Server. Usually this is a problem with the local router blocking something.

  1. Ensure that your router Wi-Fi channel is set to channel 1 to 11 (not 12 or 13)
  2. Please restart the router.
  3. If this does not work, reset the Monitoring Stick and complete the Local Wifi Setup again.

If this does not work, please contact your telecom provider for further advice.

Yes, security best practises have been implemented to protect the device and home network from intruders.

After the Stick is connected to the local Wi-Fi network, the Stick’s own network is hidden again. The only way an outsider can access the network is through the local Wi-Fi.

If the Wifi-Stick is reset, the stick’s network will be visible again, but will no longer retain information of the local Wi-Fi network.

The data is stored in Amazon’s European servers with all the normal encryption.
